FOOTLOOSE 2: DVD REVIEW

Starring Kenny Wormald ('Center Stage:Turn it Up'; 'Clerks II'; 'You Got Served'); Julianne Hough ('Rock of Ages'; 'Burlesque'; 'Dancing with the Stars' (TV appearance)); Dennis Quaid ('The Day After Tomorrow'; 'Vantage Point'; 'Frequency'; Dragonheart'; 'Soul Surfer'); Andie MacDowell ('Groundhog Day'; 'Short Cuts'; 'Sex, Lies and Videotape'; 'Four Weddings and a Funeral') and Mike Teller ('Project X'; 'Rabbit Hole'; 'The Track Meet').

In short, this film is a remake of the 1984 dance classic starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer. However, this masterpiece of the same title focuses on more modern issues relevant to a modern audience, such as relationships and the ‘coming of age’ of the characters within the narrative. Having said this, ‘Footloose 2’ promises to entertain even those who have seen and grown to love the original and those who have not. The use of lighting and  the various locations used for filming makes the story even more delectable, and the use of toe tapping country music gives the viewer a sense of joy and, by the moral messages presented in the narrative, gives a thought to issues such as friendship, determination and ‘doing the right thing’. Another very prominent issue is the fact that the younger generation of the town where the film is set take a stand against their elders to voice their disapproval of a law that was passed ten years earlier banning rock music and dancing due to a tragedy that occurred involving a group of teenagers who were driving back from a party and become involved in a head on collision with a truck which took all of their lives.
We also learn that Kenny Wormald's character, Ren, is like an onion with many layers as many tragic things, including his mother passing away due to cancer, have happened to him, and although he does not voice how he feels about these tragedies, he certainly expresses the emotions he feels through dance.
Ren's friendship with new chums Ariel (Julianne Hough); Willard (Miles Teller) and Rusty (Ziah Colon) becomes stronger when they all decide to take on the elders of the town and campaign for the law deeming dancing ilegal to be lifted- this giving the youth of the town to express their emotions through dance.
