20 January 2011 – 23 January 2011: Time with Granny and Puff

23 January 2011 I woke up to Puff putting a 'cup of ambition' on my bedside table. Realising that this was my last day with the grandparents, so realised that it was imperative that I spend as much time as physically possible.
So I helped Granny with breakfast and my 'padkos' (snack) while Puff packed the car in preparation for our departure to the bus station at which I was fetched three days earlier.
Soon it was time to start making tracks.
Arriving just in time for the bus I loaded my stuff and took my seat for the long journey back to Durbz... So ends a wonderful three days with Granny and Puff.

22 January 2011 Today was like yesterday, which reminded me that this was retirementville and very little changed on a daily basis, which, in a way, I liked as there was a break in my usual routine.
After my 'cup of ambition' and two pieces of toast with strawberry jam, I sat outside with the Ou ouers (grandparents) and chatted about the internet and its conversion and conjunction with the laptop and mobile phone, about which Puff had many questions. So I hauled out my knowledge of New Technologies curtisy of three years of studying media.
The time came for lunch, and the menu consisted of scrambled eggs, chopped sausage and bean bread a long side a glass of naatjie (satsuma) falvoured squash.
Later, we had a braai (BBQ) wihch onsisted of worse and steak. Puff was to thank for that.
By the end of the evening we had polished off a bottle of JC Le Roux pink champagne, and I felt that bed was where I was to be.

21 January 2011 This morning was quite relaxed and lazy as there was no pressure to get up at a certain time to have breakfast. However, when the offer of a cup of coffee came my way I was up and about as, like always, I couldn't go without my 'cup of ambition' (as in the words of Dolly Parton in "9 to 5"). The neighbours, Dirk and Les Wessels, appeared suddenly. Next minute the tea tray was out and they all were out on the stoep (veranda) for a small gathering. Feeling that I shouldn't be rude, I quickly brushed my hair and changed to amke myslef presentable, and then introduced myslef to the couple.
After much discussion about various topics including the differences between the current South African Higher education system and the current British system and their benefits.
It was, soon after, that if it was a competition, the British Cambridge and Oxford systems would top the South Africa's National Senior Certificate system.
Eventually, it was time to say so-long and farewell.

20 January 2011 I arrive in Margate on the South coast of South Africa, after a long bus ride from Durban town bus station. I hitched a lift with a driver from Manline Logistics to the bus station in time for my bus to my final destination. Two hours later, after a long and hot ride, I arrived to find my grandfather, whom I had always called 'Puff' due to his now abandoned tabacco pipe smoking habit. We then travelled the short distance from the dropoff point to Leisure Bay in Port Edward the next little town along.
Waiting for us when we arrived at the house was my grandmother, whom I had always known as 'Granny' though she doesn't look her age. Also waiting for us was a delicious lunch as they hadn't been sure whether I had eaten or not during my bus ride. I enjoyed a slight snack on the bus, but I was glad to see some propper food.
After this, I thanked Granny very much and announced that I was off to bed as it had got to that time of the day that one would hit the sack.
